On May 8th, Microsoft released Windows Update KB4103727. This update has been causing a number of issues for many computers. Dell branded computers appear to be losing their Network Card Driver. Every other computer (Including Dell) have been showing symptoms of Hard Drive performance being stuck at 100%. This issue is not affecting every computer and appears to be isolated to a range of models.

Symptoms 

1) No Internet/Network/Email Access

2) Extremely Slow Performance


Solution - Dell Network Card Issue

1) Go to Dell.com on another Computer and click Support

2) Click Drivers & Downloads and enter your Service Tag (Sticker on your Dell PC - EX: GW1PA2N)

3) Download the Network Card/Ethernet Drivers

4) Copy the Driver to a USB Stick

5) Run the Driver Installer on the affected Computer

6) Advanced Users can reinstall the Driver from C:\ Drivers\ Network

6) Test the Network Connection


Solution - 100% Hard Drive Performance Usage

1) Click Start and Search for CMD (Command Prompt)

2) Right Click and Select “Run as Administrator"

3) Type: net.exe stop superfetch and press the “Return" key

4) Type: net.exe stop “Windows Search" and press the “Return” key

5) Close the Command Prompt

6) Test the performance


Optional - Uninstall Windows Update KB4103727

1) Click Start and Search for Control Panel

2) Under Control Panel Search for Uninstall

3) In Uninstall Window Click View Installed Updates

4) Sort by Date, Then look for Windows Update KB4103727

5) Highlight Windows Update KB4103727 and click Uninstall

6) The Uninstall could take around 30 Minutes

7) If it takes longer, Shutdown by holding the power button for 10 Seconds

8) Power the Computer back on
